North Wilkesboro, N.C. (April 14, 2025) Located in the lush, rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hidden Brook Sporting Club will open to the public starting Sunday, May 11, 2025. Gates will be open 1 pm – 5 pm on Sunday.
The new sporting club offers a full spectrum of shooting options--Sporting Clays and Five Stand now, with Skeet and Trap fields coming in the winter of 2025-2026. In addition there will be a 3-D and Field Archery course along with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails.
The club, located only 2 ½ miles from downtown North Wilkesboro, will be open to the public Wednesday through Sunday. Mondays and Tuesdays are reserved for private events.
A Dream Realized
Hidden Brook Sporting Club is the culmination of a dream for long-time North Carolina-based shooting instructors and shooting experience guides, Tracey and Kelly Dickson.
“For years we have hosted shooting experiences at beautiful clubs in the U.S.,” says Kelly Dickson. “Tracey and I eventually looked at each other and said, ‘Why aren’t we doing this ourselves? We can bring the best of the best of what we’ve seen to one location.’”
Hidden Brook Sporting Club will happily accept walk-ins. For enthusiasts that want to enjoy an activity, such as Sporting Clays, regularly, they offer Club Cards that provide discounted rates. For example, Club Card holders will pay $0.45/target while non-Club Card holders pay $0.60/target. A cart rental is $30 for Club Card holders while non-holders pay $40.
Making Shooting Accessible to Women, Newbies
Kelly Dickson has focused on making shooting sports approachable and exhilarating for newcomers, particularly young people and women. Tracey Dickson generally teaches/coaches more experienced and competitive shooters. Together, they ensure every skill level has a dedicated instructor available to meet individual needs.
On May 11, the Sporting Clays course and Five Stand, along with trails and an archery training area will be open. Their ASA (Archery Shooters Association) 3-D archery course will be available the first part of June. Hidden Brook now also offers a styled white tent capable of accommodating 100-plus guests—the perfect setting for corporate events or large group gatherings.
Future buildouts include a pro shop/clubhouse/members club, an event center, a restaurant, and lodging.
Hidden Brook Sporting Club features:
• Sporting Clays Course: 14 stations laid out like a golf course with 2 traps at each station displaying a variety of challenging yet hittable presentations perfect for all skill levels.
• Five Stand: A fast-paced discipline where multiple clay targets launch from varied angles across five stations from six traps. Five Stand blends quick shots with diverse patterns for excitement. Participants generally shoot five targets per station, 25 targets in all.
• 3D and Field Archery: Beginning in mid-June, archers will be able to use their own equipment and take aim at three-dimensional ASA targets strategically located throughout a wooded trail. Archers encounter models of whitetail deer, leopards, hyenas, and other animals “hiding” in woods and fields. Initially, there will be a practice range with different distances to hone your skills on accuracy and format.
Coming Winter 2025-2026
• Trap Field: One of the oldest styles of sport-shooting. A trap house throws clay targets away from shooters at different angles, Shooters fire from one of five stations at targets flying in different directions.
• Skeet Field: Two “houses,” one high and one low, are positioned across from each other. As shooters follow a semi-circle course from one house to the other, targets are launched in a consistent pattern.
• Hiking and Mountain Biking Trails
